Chester Zoo is Great Britain’s premier zoo, with little under 10,000 animals and attracting on average 1.5 million visitors a year. The zoo has many small to medium-sized animal enclosures and several larger exhibits, as shown by the map in the park’s guide book.

The star attractions on park include Elephants Of The Asian Forest, an indoor and outdoor tropical environment where the starring animals are rare Asian elephants, and Spirit Of The Jaguar, a multi-million tropical house which also owns the title of the largest jaguar breeding facility in the world. More major exhibits include Realm Of The Red Ape, which is home to orangutans and other Bornenan wildlife, Tvaso Rhino Experience, an enclosure of black rhinos, Twilight Zone, a free-range bat walk-through and Islands In Danger, home of the largest lizard in the world, the Komodo dragon.

However, not forgetting the other animals, also on offer to view are chimpanzees, okapis, sea-lions, cheetah, buffalo, giraffes, lions, tigers, camels and much more! Chester Zoo isn’t only all about the animals; there is a small boat ride which travels past the monkey islands and a monorail which transports guests to the other side of the zoo.

A fantastic family day out, and certainly worthy of it’s title as Britain’s premier zoo!
