More than twenty people have been injured after two cars on the wooden roller coaster Big Dipper at the Black pool Pleasure Beach crashed and came to rest about 20ft above the ground. This happened at 7:45 last night. Lancashire Fire has said about 32 “walking wounded” were taken to hospital by ambulance. A special rope team was brought to the scene to help get people off the ride, with stretchers and spinal boards for the injured. A number of passengers on the ride suffered broken bones, whiplash and back injuries.
That sounds bad! How did that happen?
To put it simply. A train got stuck on the track. The other train was dispatched from the station (this would not happen with a modern coaster) without the ride operative knowing that the other train had got stuck. This caused the two trains to crash.
Awful.
However it has been undergoing maintenance over the summer to ensure it is safe when it re-opens. So this is not the end of the legendary, Big Dipper.
